Denver Lawyer Helps Raise Cryptocurrency for Ukraine

DENVER, Colo. (KDVR) – A Colorado lawyer is using her cryptocurrency expertise to help people in her native Ukraine.

Yev Muchnik lives and works in Denver, but was born in Kiev.

“We immigrated with my parents as Jewish refugees in the late 80s, and it touches me so close to home,” Muchnik said. “The last two weeks have been nothing but a nightmare, and you just can’t turn away.”

Seeing the places she used to go destroyed, knowing that distant relatives and friends are under direct threat in Ukraine, the Denver attorney felt the need to do something about it.

“I went into the world of Twitter and started circulating ideas about how the WEB3 community, which is what I specialize in, how we can come together and find ways to help” , said Muchnik.

Muchnik tells FOX31 that she received a huge response and the ideas quickly turned into online donation channels with volunteers putting their technology expertise into creating communication channels to connect with people in Ukraine.

“The genesis of this effort is called Ukraine United DAO,” Muchnik said. “After setting this up and setting up a telegram channel, setting up a discord channel, using all these decentralized communication methods. We also ended up partnering with Ukraine DAO and Unchained Fund. They have been incredibly active and managed to raise significant funds from the crypto community and WEB3 as a whole.

Muchnik says web communities have raised millions in cryptocurrency for different humanitarian needs in Ukraine.

“From hospitals to trying to get women and children out, all types of humanitarian needs, those funds have been rolled out and straight into people’s wallets, into their hands,” Muchnik said.

Muchnik says the Colorado legal community is also stepping up, and the Colorado Women’s Bar Association is currently working to find ways to help refugees in Ukraine.

“I’m just, I’m overwhelmed with how people have come out and rallied around,” Muchnik said.

Muchnik says that Ukraine United DAO is currently working on organizing a hackathon.
