Dimapur, October 24 (MExN): A legal rights awareness campaign led by the Kohima Bench High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) for inmates at Dimapur Central Prison brought together around 160 inmates.
A press release received here said that Neiko Akami, HCLSC Secretary and Kohima Bench Registrar in her keynote speech urged inmates to reform in prison and spoke about the right to appeal to the High Court to convicted inmates who are serving their sentence. . He also said that the High Court’s legal services have currently handled 14 appeal cases to the High Court and one case to the Supreme Court of India.
Seyielenou MezÃ¼, chief judicial magistrate and secretary of the DLSA, spoke about the powers to commute sentences under Article 432/433 / 433A CrPC. She emphasized that the reform justice delivery system was the primary goal of an inmate to become responsible citizens upon release from prison. Guwahati High Court Senior Counsel, Kohima Bench, CT Jamir, spoke on the appeal for parole and temporary release from prison in accordance with established rules and procedures.
The program, which was held on October 23, was chaired by Tonika Shohe, lawyer for the DLSA Panel, Dimapur. It ended with a vote of thanks from Dr Oben Yanthan, jailer, Dimapur central prison.
