The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has kept the group away from the gruesome murder of a lawyer, lawyer Darlington Odume.

The lawyer was murdered Thursday by unknown gunmen in Umudara, Amaifeke, in the Orlu local government area, in Imo state.

It was learned that the deceased had been dragged from his room in the town of Orlu by his assailants and had been shot several times around Amaifeke, where he was purchasing edible items.

IPOB in a statement signed and made available to SaharaReporters by its Media and Publicity Secretary Comrade Emma Powerful said Odume was murdered by the state sponsored group known as Men armed unknown.

Powerful urged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) not to be fooled by false media propaganda from the Nigerian Police and Department of State Services, stressing that the IPOB could not hurt lawyers and journalists , assuming they are violent.

The statement read: “We, the indigenous peoples of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, distance ourselves from the gruesome murder of a lawyer Barr. Popular Darlington Chume Odume known as Omekagu who was assassinated in Amaifeke Orlu Imo State by the state sponsored group known as Unknown Gunmen.

“Contrary to the claims of those who seek to demonize IPOB, IPOB has no part in the cruel and unreasonable murder of lawyer Darlington Chume Odume. Those who commit these murderous activities in Imo State and other parts of Biafra territory are doing so simply to implicate IPOB and the Eastern Security Network, ESN.

“We have explained several times that we have no hand in these horrific killings in the land of Biafra but some do not want to believe us. IPOB is a non-violent and peaceful movement present in more than 100 countries. We are only after the peaceful restoration of Biafra. Murders are not part of our mandate. Those who commit these heinous crimes are only doing it to involve us and destroy our global image, but we are innocent.

“The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA should not be deceived by the Nigerian Police and DSS with their false media propaganda. It makes no sense for IPOB to go after lawyers or journalists for example, assuming we are violent. These two professionals are rather the best of our friends because they are the ones who save us in our quest for Justice. We will never consider hurting anyone in any of these noble professions or any profession for that matter.

“Lawyers have helped this struggle and facilitated the liberation of our people in different parts of Nigeria. They are putting their lives in danger for us, and there is no way we can reasonably make this rare gesture by chasing them down. It is an irony and most illogical. Those who link us to this barbarism should please look for a smarter script. IPOB cannot go too low by killing our lawyers, journalists and human rights groups and individuals.
