Judicial Watch President and MAGA loyalist Tom Fitton began providing legal advice to former President Donald Trump shortly after the National Archives admitted in February to taking 15 boxes of documents from Mar-a- The girlfriend, CNN reported on Thursday. Fitton, who is not a lawyer but who is one of the worst purveyors of misinformation about Trump’s 2020 election defeat, reportedly advised the ex-president not to provide additional documents to the archives. The right-wing media figure also reportedly told Trump that his team shouldn’t have let the archives “arm” them into turning over the other recordings. “By the time Tom got into the boss’s ear, it was downhill from there,” a person close to Trump told CNN. Other sources added that Trump “began to obsess over Fitton’s arguments” and “even asked Fitton at one point to brief his attorneys.” This all happened as Trump publicly claimed to be cooperating with the government over the documents. The former president is currently being investigated for violating the Espionage Act and unlawful possession of classified material, according to the search warrant used to search his home this month. The redacted affidavit behind this search warrant will be released Friday by the Department of Justice.
